|DataPlug - Options
|Options allow you to define different variations for the same item.|
You can read more about options in the Actinic system in the following help topic:
Options - Basic Concepts
The DataPlug allows you to manage item options. With this application, you can:
- Create a Parent and associate up to 3 option types to the Parent.
- Modify or add Options to a Parent created via the DataPlug.
- Modify or add Options to a Parent created via the admin console.
You CANNOT turn an Item that has already been created into a Parent (containing Options) via the DataPlug.
If you are not yet familiar with DataPlug usage, we highly recommend reading the following help topic before proceeding:

| Preparing Your Data|
The easiest way to proceed is to use the Actinic example file below, where you will benefit from automated column mapping for your item properties.

| Specific Columns|
In the Actinic solution, a Parent is a product that contains Options.|
Attention: The process for creating Options differs between the admin console and the DataPlug:
- In the admin console:
1. You create an item.
2. You turn the item into a Parent when you create its Options.
- In the DataPlug :
1. You add the Options directly to the item by defining a Parent code.
2. If the Parent doesn't exist, it will be created in your admin.
In the Excel file, the only requirement for creating Options is the Parent item code corresponding to the Parent code you are creating or updating.
In the Actinic solution, Options are full-fledged products. Therefore, the "Item Code" column corresponds to the final option code.
This column allows you to choose the Option that will be displayed by default on the product page.
A value of 1 indicates the option to be defined by default (see the "Default" column in above image).
Three columns are available to enter the names of your Option Types, which represent the characteristics of your different product variations. Example: size, color, etc.
- Option Type - Public Name
The system name is not visible to your visitors and is used to manage your option types in the admin console. While optional, it is very useful and allows you to distinguish between several option types that may have the same public name, for example: Color (for XXX collection shirts) or Color (for YYY collection pants).
- Option Type - System Name
In the DataPlug, this column is VERY IMPORTANT.
The DataPlug also needs to know which Option Type needs to be created or updated. Defining the system name for your Option Types will avoid Colors for YYY collection pants getting added to the Option Type Color for XXX collection shirts.
| Updating a Parent |
You can modify options from the parent item. We recommend conducting a test on one parent item to check that resulting option modifications are satisfactory before applying massive updates.
Like in the back office, modifications on a parent product will be passed on to all it's options, as long as no previous modifications were made on those options.
Note: SEO properties and Categories must be the same for a parent item and its options.
