DataPlug - Images

 Preparing Your Images

To begin, it is important to note that each image in your site has to have a unique name. Moreover, it is recommended that you name the image using the name of the item it will be associated to (if the image will be attached to an item), using several keywords to optimise your site for natural search engine optimization.

dataPlug can automatically rename your images. Read thisFAQ answer for more information about this feature:

How to automatically rename images with DataPlug ?

Warning! Oxatis DataPlug will overwrite images with the same name, even if they are organised in different folders.

 Organising Images on Your Computer

The first time you use Oxatis DataPlug, the application will ask you to define the "Main Image Directory". All the images for your site should be added to this directory. We recommend creating sub-folders (by item or by category). This will allow the application to automatically create image categories in your Oxatis image gallery, optimizing the organization of your site's data.

You can create a tree structure of up to 5 levels of sub-folders in the main image directory on your computer.

You can modify the "Main Image Directory" settings for Oxatis DataPlug by clicking on the following menu: Tools > Settings > Main Image Directory tab.

 Import Procedure
  • Click on Import (yellow arrow) in the Images section of the DataPlug to add the images from your directory to the DataPlug database.
  • You can view the imported images using the magnifying glass and delete unwanted files by right clicking on the desired row.

  • Click on Upload (red arrow) to upload the images to your site's image gallery.

The images are immediately uploaded. They are added to the image gallery one by one and can be used in your site as soon as the upload procedure is complete.

When uploading a large quantity of images, this procedure may take a certain amount of time. Reminder: Sending large quantities of images will increase the disk space used by your site and can potentially impact your billing.

An error report will indicate if there are any problems with the upload.

 Associating Images to Items

There are five ways to attach images to your items using Oxatis DataPlug.
  • Method 1: From the Image Name
Import your images as described above and enter the names of these images in the related fields of the Excel file for your items.

  • Method 2: From DataPlug
First import your Item file into the DataPlug database. You can then associate several images (additional images) to your items by right clicking the items you want to add images to.

With this method, you do not have to first prepare and then import your images. This will be done automatically by the DataPlug. You can find more information about this method in the following help topic: DataPlug - Additional Images

  • Method 3: From the Image Path
Enter the full paths to your images on your hard disk (example path: C:\Users\YourUserName\Pictures\DataPlugImages\image1.jpg) into your Excel file, in the ZoomImgFileName column. The application will then create the three images (main, thumbnail and zoom) and link them to the product.

A window will open for setting the way image files should be renamed. Read more about this feature in the following FAQ answer: How to automatically rename images with DataPlug ?

Using this method, you no longer have to begin by resizing and importing images to your image gallery. These operations are automatically done by DataPlug. Find out more in this online help topic: DataPlug - Additional Images

  • Method 4: From the Image URL
Enter the URLs of your images (exampleURL: http://www.oxatis.com/Files/13825/Img/02/logo-oxatis-V10.gif) into your Excel file, in the ZoomImgFileName column. The application will then create the three images (main, thumbnail and zoom) and link them to the product.

Note: You can use both paths and URLs in the same Excel file.

  • Method 5: From Your Image Folder
You don't fill in the image fields in your Excel file and you don't map these columns during import. The simplest way is to delete all the image columns in the Excel file. The system then offers to search for product images on your hard disk. The automatic import window opens and you can designate the folder containing product images. If you have named the images with the corresponding product's code (Item SKU) then DataPlug will link the images to the product. Example of an Item SKU: CO001 - the corresponding image name should be CO001.jpg

The application will then create the three images (main, thumbnail and zoom) and link them to the product.

NB: If the images are already in your image gallery, you need to fill in the Original Image name in your Excel file. You can find this name from the [Gallery / Images] menu, [Edit View] button > uncross the title of the Original Image column in the image table. Confirm [OK].

 Incremental Updates

If you only add one image to your Main Image Directory (or you modify an existing image) and you reimport your images, only the added or modified image will be added to the DataPlug database. Oxatis DataPlug goes by the image's last date modified. This way, when uploading the images to Oxatis, only added or modified elements will be sent.

The images in your Oxatis site cannot be retrieved using the DataPlug. This tool allows you to upload images to your site, but not to download them.

If you reset the database, (Tools > Reset DataPlug database), it will be empty. You will then need to reimport the data that was reset to zero.
