Editing Options

 Objective

Once Options have been created for an Item, they can be edited. Grouping Parents with their Options allows you to modify properties globally for all product variations or individually for each product variation.

In order to understand this help topic, it is essential that you first consult the following help topic: Options - Basic Concepts

Particular Case: Duplicating and linking products is described in the following help topic: Duplicating Options

 Modifying Option Properties

Each Option can be edited individually. This way, you can redefine a large amount of the product characteristics for each variation: title, description, price, quantity, weight, availability, etc.

Keep in mind that the Options are all displayed in the same product description. Therefore, you will not be able to modify certain properties, such as the language, categories, brand, search engine optimization properties... Properties shared by all the Options must be modified in the Parent.
  • Modifying Additional Images

You can display different zoom images for each of your Options. Important: In a multi-lingual catalog with shared Options, additional images are always edited in linked mode.

    • If no additional images have been defined for the Parent, the system will allow you to add them exactly like you would in a traditional Item.

More information is available in the following help topic: How do I add additional images (zoom) to an item?

    • If images have been defined for the Parent, the Options will display the Parent's additional images. The system then proposes 2 choices:

      Cliquez sur l'image pour l'agrandir

      • [Cancel Parent Inheritance]: To no longer display the additional images defined in the Parent file.
      • [Copy Parent List]: Allows you to copy the Parent's additional images to the Option file, giving you the possibility to modify them.

    • If images have been defined for the Parent but the Option list is empty (if you clicked on [Cancel Parent Inheritance], for example), you will be able to define new images or retrieve the list defined in the Parent file (either by inheritance or by creating a copy).

  • Modifying Up-Selling and Cross-Selling Definitions

"Related Item of" and "Lower-End Items" are not inherited by Options. If you want to propose a Parent as a complementary item for certain products in your site, it doesn't necessarily mean that you want to propose all of its Options as well.

"Related Items" and "Higher-End Items" are inherited from the Parent. However, it is entirely possible to propose different cross-selling (Related Items) and up-selling (Higher-End Items) products for each of your Options.

    • If no cross-selling or up-selling items have been defined for the Parent, the system will allow you to add them (for the specific Option being edited, therefore Option by Option) exactly like you would for a traditional Item.

More information is available in the following help topic: Up-Selling and Cross-Selling

    • If the list of up-selling and cross-selling items has been inherited (see help topic: Options - Basic Concepts) from the Parent, the system will allow you to cancel inheritance for the Option being edited.

    • Once the list has been deleted, you can create a new list for the Option or reestablish the link with the Parent list.

 Modifying a Parent

Modifications to the Parent are passed on to each of the Options, but only for properties that are still identical to the Parent.

This way, the Parent allows you to group modifications for your Options while maintaining any changes you specifically and separately made to each Option.

Inheritance behaviors are described in detail in the following help topic: Options - Basic Concepts.

Modifying the Parent's product code is a special case. The modification is passed on to the Options, but only if the Options have conserved this concatenated code alongside their Option code.

Example:

Initial Parent Code: Tshirt Modified Parent Code: Blouse
Option1: TshirtBLK
Option2: TshiWHT
Option3: TeeshirtRED
Option4: Tshirt-GRN
Option1: BlouseBLK
Option2: TshiWHT
Option3: TeeshirtRED
Option4: Blouse-GRN

 Modifying Option Types

Option Types are used to create Options. The name and values of each Option Type are then visible in the product description to allow visitors to choose the product variation they want to order.

Option Type names and values cannot be directly modified in the Parent or the Options. You must edit these elements via the "Option Types" menu (see help topic: Option Types).

Warning: If modified, any Parents that used the Option Type to create Options will be updated.

Option Types can also be translated, which allows you to use them to create the different language versions of your items in a multi-lingual site. See help topic: How do I create items in several languages?

 Adding New Options

You can re-launch the Option Creation Wizard from the Option list.

Adding new values to an Option Type will modify:
  • The Parent currently being edited, which will now contain new Options corresponding to the combination of the new values and the existing Options.
  • The Option Type, whose updated list will be saved for future use.
Other Parents using the same Option Type will not be modified.

The Option Creation Wizard also allows you to add new Option Types to the Parent (if the limit of 3 Option Types has not been reached). As with adding new values, new Options, resulting from the combination of the Option Type values and the existing Options, will be added to the Parent.

 Modifying Linked Options

When Options are linked, modifying the stock in one of the Options systematically updates the stock in any linked Options.

However, the system allows you to extend this possibility. You can edit the Option and pass on certain properties to any linked Options. This way, if you decide to modify the weight of an Option, for example, you won't have to do so in every language version of your product.

The system also takes into account the translation of your linked Options. Therefore, the modification of certain fields will never be passed on to linked Options:
  • Name,
  • Descriptions,
  • SEO properties.
Two editing modes (linked or unlinked) will be proposed by the system and a warning message will remind you of the consequences of each choice.

 Modifying Linked Parents

As with Options, the system proposes two editing modes for linked Parents.

In linked mode, modifications will be passed on to the Parent's Options and then on to any linked Options.

The rules of inheritance described in the following help topic will be respected: Options - Basic Concepts. When the Parent is modified, the Option's properties are updated if, and only if, they are identical to the Parent's properties. If the Option of a Parent is modified, the properties are then passed on to any linked Options, just like they would be if each Option was edited independently in linked mode.

As with Option modification, the system also takes into account the translation of linked Parents and/or Options in the other language versions of your products. Therefore, properties associated to language are never linked:
  • Name,
  • Descriptions,
  • Categories,
  • Brand,
  • SEO properties.
The product Code is also a specific field and is never linked. Therefore, any modifications to the product code will never be passed on to the other language version Parents or Options.

Two editing modes (linked or unlinked) will be proposed by the system and a warning message will remind you of the consequences of each choice.
