Actinic Express provides flexibility to accept credit card payments through a variety of options including offline and online credit card processing.
Offline credit card processing
You can process credit card payments offline using the Actinic Express Secure Checkout Server. This is provided as part of the Actinic Express service. It fully protects your orders using a 128bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) server, and all credit card details are encrypted. You can then take credit card orders securely in your store, and process them manually through your PDQ machine. Your business must already have a credit card merchant account and a PDQ machine. You may need to confirm with your merchant account provider that you can use your account to process payments from your web site.
Online credit card processing
To process credit card transactions automatically online, you will need to sign up to one of the online payment gateway systems. These companies process online credit card transactions and charge a service or transaction fee. Once the transaction is completed the money is placed directly into your bank account. Actinic Express integrates with a number of online payment systems (highlighted below). Once you have signed up to one of these services, follow the instructions in the ‘Payment Methods’ section in your Store Administration to set up the system for use with your store.
If your business already has a merchant account you will need to provide the online payment provider with your existing merchant account number. They will handle the transaction and deposit the money into your bank account once the transaction has completed.
If you do not have a merchant account and therefore cannot currently take credit cards, you need to either go to your bank to apply for one or open an account with an online payment processor. If you have no trading history then the best option may be to go to an online payment processor as the banks remain reluctant to open merchant accounts for new businesses. There may be an initial set up fee to open the account. The online payment processor handles the credit card transaction and charges a small commission fee for each transaction. Once the transaction is completed the money will be deposited into your bank account.
